UPDATE: Police arrest man accused of breaking into, stealing from Lompoc church

UPDATE – Lompoc police have made an arrest in connection with a break-in at a Lompoc church.

Police say Jose LopezReyes, 56, stole money and items from La Purisima Church Tuesday morning.

According to police, LopezReyes was arrested after he returned to the church on Wednesday, and church staff members recognized him from surveillance video.

LopezReyes was found with a set of keys to the church along with methamphetamine, police say.

He is being held in the Lompoc jail on $20,000 bail.


ORIGINAL STORY: Police are working to identify a man they say broke into a Lompoc church and stole items and money.

It reportedly happened early Tuesday morning at La Purisima Catholic Church on the 200 block of W. Olive.

Police released surveillance photos of the man they say is responsible.
