A prescribed burn to help reduce the risk of wildfire is taking place Thursday south of Orcutt.
The Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District says about 400 acres of mixed chaparral and coastal sage scrub are being burned at Righetti Ranch between Highway 101 and Highway 135.
The burn is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
If anyone in the area smells smoke, officials say to take the necessary precautions to keep yourself safe.
