Jody Cox has been appointed Morro Bay’s new police chief.

Cox has been acting police chief since August when Gregory Allen resigned.

His first official day as police chief will be November 3.

Cox has worked for the Morro Bay Police Department since 2012 and was promoted to commander in 2016. He began his career with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department back in 1988.

City officials say Cox was chosen for the job following an interview process that involved Morro Bay community members and chiefs of police from around the San Luis Obispo County area.

“I am very honored and humbled by the overwhelming support I have received from my department, the Morro Bay City Council and staff, and this amazing community,” Cox said in a statement released Wednesday. “I look forward to continuing to build upon the strong foundation of exemplary police service that we have instilled over the past few years by partnering with our community. Working together we will continue to make a difference for all those that live, work and visit our beautiful city.”
