A local dentist is collecting Halloween candy to send in care packages to U.S. troops, veterans, and first responders.

Trick-or-treaters who end up with a little too much candy can donate the sweets to Operation Gratitude. The dental office of Dr. Ryan M. Ross will be collecting the candy through November 7.

Those who donate candy can also include handwritten thank you letters that will be included in the care packages. Donations of dental floss, travel-sized toothpaste, pens, and pencils will also be accepted.

Dr. Ross’ office is located at 11545 Los Osos Valley Rd., Suite A, in San Luis Obispo.

Last year, more than 400,000 pounds of candy was donated to Operation Gratitude nationwide.
