UPDATE (12:30 p.m.) – The San Luis Obispo County Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team has arrived at the scene and is investigating the container.

(11:07 a.m.) – A bomb squad was called to Grover Beach Elementary Monday morning after a container with a suspicious liquid was found, authorities say.

The Grover Beach Police Department and Five Cities Fire Authority responded to the school on the 300 block of S. 10th Street.

A spokesperson with the Lucia Mar Unified School District said a 2 liter bottle with an “unknown liquid” was found by a gate located on Seabright Avenue.

District officials said just after 11 a.m. that classes and activities were continuing as planned at the school, but that, for precautionary reasons, the school was sheltering in place, meaning staff and students would stay in their classrooms for the time being.

“GBPD does not believe this is a danger to students or staff,” school officials told KSBY.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
