The San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport was named the best airport/transit project on Oct. 11 by Engineering News-Record.

Engineering News-Record honored the San Luis Obispo airport with its top accolade after a panel judged more than 100 projects throughout the Southern California area and Hawaii. The panel ranked the projects based on contribution to the community, safety, construction and design quality and the ability for project teams to overcome challenges with the building process.

“Our airport has become both a symbol and a welcoming gateway to the unique small-town charm and scenic beauty of our County,” said Adam Hill, District 3 Supervisor for San Luis Obispo County.

Engineering News-Record highlighted the airport’s indoor-outdoor terminal, environmental impact and completing the terminal project on time and within its budget.

The terminal has previously won the John L. Martin Partnered Project of the Year Award from the International Partnering Institute back in May.

The San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport will be entered into the overall Project of the Year through Engineering News-Record, which will announce the winner in March 2019.
