Firefighters visited schools across San Luis Obispo County Thursday as part of the annual Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation Burn Relay.
The students were taught fire safety, including how to escape from or put out a fire. They learned the classic “stop, drop and roll” routine, as well as how to stay low and crawl out of a building if there’s a lot of smoke.
“We want to spread awareness of fire safety, we want to prevent burns from happening, that is definitely the main reason why we have the burn foundation,” said Erika Corona-Mendoza, Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation Regional Manager.
Many of the schools raised money for the foundation and presented checks to the firefighters during their stops.
