The Central Coast Aquarium in Avila Beach plans to release its Giant Pacific Octopus named “Joan” later this month.

Joan was found in a fisherman’s prawn trap last year and donated to the aquarium.

The folks at the aquarium say she’s now getting to be too large for her exhibit, so they plan to release her back into the ocean on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018. They say her species of octopus can grow to more than six-feet in length.

Joan will remain on exhibit until her release. The Central Coast Aquarium is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is located at 50 San Juan Street in Avila Beach.
