Operation Surf is hosting its 10th annual surf program for wounded active-duty military members and veterans on the Central Coast this week.

The invited guests flew into the San Luis Obispo Regional Airport to spend some time in the water and under the sun for an alternative approach to rehabilitative services. They will get the opportunity to learn about surfing, as well as how to get involved with the volunteering services that Operation Surf provides to the community.

Operation Surf founder Van Curaza created the program to provide an active approach to the rehab process and make a difference in the local community by infusing his passion into a charitable mission.

“It’s a sense of a…being a part of something that I wasn’t able to by just helping and giving back. It’s just been…it’s been a journey back to me to be able to help other people,” said Curaza of the Operation Surf initiative.

The Operation Surf festivities kick off in Avila Beach on Wednesday and continue on in Morro Bay until Oct. 15.
