Heroes gear up for Central Coast Honor Flight set to head to D.C.

Posted

Members of the “Greatest Generation” gathered on Saturday for a luncheon just days from their flight to Washington D.C.

Honor Flight Central Coast is sending another crew to see the memorials built in their honor for their sacrifice.

The group on the Central Coast has sent almost 300 veterans back to the nation’s capital since it began.

Before arriving to the memorials, the veterans are greeted by people who shake their hands and thank them for their service to the country.

“A lot of these guys you talk to them and they thought our country was going down hill and to get on this trip and see the people that come up to them has really instilled in them that America is still great,” said Bear McGill, chairman of the Honor Flight Central Coast.

Each flight costs roughly $1,500 but is made by donations. The flight is free to veterans.

The next trip is scheduled Tuesday, Oct. 15.
