Chris Berdoll, the Atascadero teacher accused of producing child pornography, appeared in San Luis Obispo Superior Court on Monday.
Berdoll, 48, is charged with 44 counts of possessing child pornography and using underage children to pose for photographs depicting child pornography.
Berdoll did not enter a plea at the court hearing Monday and his arraignment was continued until October 18.
At that time, the judge will also consider a motion to increase Berdoll’s bail.
His bail was previously set at $500,000. He was able to post the required amount and is no longer in custody.
In the meantime, the judge has signed off on several criminal protective orders that require Berdoll to stay 100 yards away from the alleged victims and not have any electronic, telephone or written contact with them. He is also prohibited from owning any firearms.
The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office says it has identified 20 victims related to this case.
Berdoll is a sixth-grade and visual arts teacher at Atascadero Fine Arts Academy. The Atascadero Unified School District placed him on leave earlier this month after district officials say they were made aware of the allegations.
