UPDATE (5:51 p.m.) – The Santa Barbara County Fire Department reports that the fire has been contained at 48.2 acres.
(3:24 p.m.) – Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to a brush fire east of Santa Maria on Thursday.
The fire was reported just after 1:30 p.m. off Betteravia Rd. in the Foxen Canyon area.
Fire officials say crews arrived to find a 5-7 acre fire burning in moderate fuels at a moderate rate of spread.
The fire is bordered on one side by a creek bed and firefighters expect to have forward progress of the fire stopped soon.
Crews on the ground and in the air are working to contain the fire.
The cause is under investigation.
