The California Public Utilities Commission is offering certain customer protections to fire victims as a result of the State of Emergency declared for California.

The protections cover utilities such as electric and natural gas, water and sewer utility and home telephone services.

Customers impacted by the wildfires will not have their electric services disconnected, nor will they continue billing for those who lost their homes and cannot receive electricity or gas in their homes.

The water protections cover any unpaid bills, waving reconnection fees and providing reasonable payment plans for those affected.

Telephone services must refund customers whose homes could no longer receive the service, or waive their fees due to losing their property to the fires.

The wildfires throughout California have destroyed a total of more than 8,000 homes.
