California State Parks is planning multiple prescribed burns at coastal state parks throughout San Luis Obispo County.

The burns could take place anytime between Oct. 2, 2018 and May 31, 2019.

State Parks says burning may occur at Hearst San Simeon, Montaña de Oro, Morro Bay, Estero Bluffs, and Harmony Headlands state parks.

The work will include grassland and coastal scrub burns, as well as pile burns.

The goal is to reduce the fuel load, especially dead and dying trees in the Monterey pine forests, thereby reducing the chance of a wildfire.

State Parks officials say they will work with the San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District and the California Air Resources Board to make sure the burns occur on days when the weather is favorable for smoke dispersal.
