Election night results show Bill Brown leading in the race for Santa Barbara County Sheriff.

Brown, the incumbent, is being challenged by Juan Camarena.

Brown has served as Sheriff-Coroner since 2007. Camarena is a lieutenant in the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.

As of 9:30 p.m., Brown had 57% of the vote while Camarena had 43%.

"I'm very appreciative of everybody's hard work, everybody that reached out and helped spread the word," Lt. Camarena told KSBY News Tuesday night.

Sheriff Brown said, "There's a lot of highs and lows that come in a campaign but the great thing about campaigning is it reconnects you with your constituents in the county that put you into office the first time and hopefully the fifth time as well."

If confirmed for a fifth term, Brown says he would like to finalize progress on the Northern Branch Jail, as well as increase resources for those struggling with substance abuse and addiction issues.
