Tuesday’s General Election will be the last where people will have to pay for postage to mail absentee ballots.
In July, Governor Jerry Brown approved a bill that requires vote-by-mail ballots must also contain a pre-paid envelope when delivered to voters.
Currently, one stamp is needed on the envelope to cover the cost of the ballot being mailed in San Luis Obispo or Santa Barbara counties.
Clerk-recorders in both San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties say there is a system in place to cover postage costs for those who mail their ballots without stamps, but it’s designed for emergency situations only.
