The first round of COVID-19 vaccinations at Vandenberg Air Force Base are being administered.
The 30th Space Wing says the Department of Defense distributed the vaccine to the base and other select locations as part of Operation Warp Speed, "the nation’s initiative to safely and efficiently vaccinate the American public."
The vaccines were administered by the 30th Medical Group Jan. 6 to medical workers and “prioritized personnel” and will continue to be given over the new few months to other groups.
While the vaccine is not mandatory, base officials say it’s being recommended by the 30th Medical Group to help prevent the spread of the virus.
