Cal Poly is transitioning to a new method of COVID-19 surveillance testing for students.
The university on Thursday began offering saliva-based testing, designed as a faster and more convenient testing experience.
The samples taken will be processed at the SARS-CoV-2 Testing Lab on campus.
Saliva-based tests are currently being offered at Poly Canyon Village but starting Feb. 25, will also be offered at the Performing Arts Center.
Nasal swab testing will still be available at the PAC for university employees.
The university says the new testing is free and insurance is not required, but at this time, the testing is only open to students.
Cal Poly has administered more than 78,500 COVID-19 tests to students since Sept. 1, 2020.
