Some local Rite Aids to begin offering no-cost self-swab COVID-19 testing

Rite Aid is opening 161 additional COVID-19 testing sites across the country including a new self-swab location in Santa Maria.

The no-cost tests will be overseen by Rite Aid pharmacists and will be done through the store's drive-in window.

All adults, even those not exhibiting virus symptoms, are eligible for testing.

Tests began Thursday in Atascadero .

People need to pre-register online and schedule a time slot for testing.

The Rite Aid location on South Broadway in Santa Maria will begin offering the tests July 30. The Town Center West location does not know when it will begin offering the tests.

Rite Aid will now operate a total of 258 testing sites with the ability to conduct 94,000 tests weekly across all locations.
