SAN LUIS OBISPO — A head-on collision on Saturday night in San Luis Obispo sent two people to the hospital, one with major injuries, according the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred on Los Osos Valley Road near West Foothill Boulevard around 10:30 p.m.

The CHP says a Toyota Sienna, driven by Daniel Pooler, 20, of Lompoc, was heading eastbound on Los Osos Valley Road when he drove into the westbound lane clipping one on-coming car and crashing head-on into another.

The driver of the BMW, Marcus Tribelhorn, 49, of Los Osos, was able to swerve out of the way of Toyota avoiding a straight on crash, instead the back end of his vehicle took the brunt of the damage, according to the CHP initial report.

CHP says the car behind the BMW, a Toyota 4 Runner, driven by Cory Fiscus, 19, of Los Osos, did not see the on-coming car until it was too late. The two cars collided head-on just west of West Foothill Boulevard.

Pooler was trapped in his car and had to be extricated by firefighters. He was taken to Sierra Vista Hospital for treatment of his injuries. CHP says Pooler will face charges of driving under the influence and causing injury.

Fiscus was ejected from his vehicle during the crash. He was transported to Sierra Vista Hospital with major injuries.

CHP says the collision remains under investigation.
