You have likely heard of farm to table, but how about Field to Vase?
In this week's Central Coast Living, there is a chance for you to have dinner among the flowers.
On a cloudy day outside of Lompoc, you don't need sunshine to see the beautiful colors lining Ocean View Flower fields.
"I'm always amazed they don't see the imperfections I see," Frank Costa laughed. He is a flower grower, a position he has flourished at since the 1990s.
Bragging isn't Costa's strong suit, but hard work is.
"This was a challenge," he said among the stock of more than a dozen colors. "I've grown crops since I was 14, but this was a challenge."
What started out as a crop diversification, has bloomed into more than 500 acres and is renowned for its stock.
Costa knows the excitement people will have when they attend a Field to Vase dinner in September, hosted by the American Grown Field, with the flowers serving as the venue for an evening of local food, beer and wine.
"Just to bring people out who are never in the fields, to get the feeling of what its like and maybe go home and want to buy some flowers and enjoy flowers and understand what it is all about," Costa said.
Rain or shine the dinner will happen Sept. 7. Tickets are still available. You can learn more here.
