Central Coast Living: Beer at the Pier takes the sting out of Mondays in Los Osos

Mondays haven't been the same for the last five years in Los Osos thanks to Beer at the Pier, a weekly gathering of music and dancing in Baywood.

"Every show is different," said Paul Irving, musician and owner of Big Big SLO.

Beer at the Pier has morphed into a year round staple.

"The best thing I love about it is how stoked the entire community is just to get together and connect every Monday," Irving said. "I haven't seen that anywhere else. I think the people of Los Osos and Baywood love their music and love community more than any place else than I've experienced so this really keeps it all together."

The event, which is in its fifth year, has humble beginnings.

"It started out with like 12 guys on the side of the patio over here and now we get 200-400 people over here every Monday for a really great time."

There is something to be said about keeping this place a secret -- the venue is close quarters both at La Palapa and the Baywood Pier.

"I think we want to keep it where it is and not try to grow it much more because the venue is a quaint little spot," Irving said.

During the "winter" months, the event is indoors, on the stage at La Palapa starting at 5 p.m. Beginning in April, it moves back outside where the dance floor turns into grass.

So treat yourself on a Monday. Just tell only your close family and friends about it.
