The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will temporarily close all field offices statewide beginning March 27 and reopen virtually on April 2.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, all in-office appointments will be canceled. Customers are encouraged to check the DMV website for future appointment availability.

DMV online services will continue to be available at dmv.ca.gov.

DMV kiosks throughout the state will also be available and DMV customer service centers will continue to operate during normal business hours at 1-800-777-0133 or via the live chat feature on the DMV website.

DMV field office employees will return to work on Wednesday, April 1, to process transactions and begin training on the DMV Virtual Field Office. The Virtual Field Office will allow customers to take care of transactions online that previously required an in-person visit.

The DMV has not yet set a date to return to regular operations.
