The California Highway Patrol reports officers made 271 arrests for driving under the influence during the CHP's Christmas Day Maximum Enforcement Period.

The maximum enforcement period began on December 24 at 6 p.m. and concluded on December 25 at 11:59 p.m.

During that time, the CHP says at least 10 people were killed in traffic collisions throughout the state.

During a maximum enforcement period, the CHP deploys all available officers to the roadways for enhanced enforcement and to assist any drivers who need help.

A similar holiday enforcement effort is planned for next week during the New Year's celebration.
