A firefighter in San Miguel celebrated 60 years of service Saturday.
The San Miguel Firefighter’s Association held a party for Gilbert Buckman to honor his years of work.
Buckman is an engineer with the San Miguel Fire Department.
He drives the truck and operates equipment.
Buckman says he was inspired to fight fire after watching someone die in a burning building when was just a teenager.
“Like I said if you see something bad happening and you can fix it, that’s what we do, we stop it,” said Buckman. “Sometimes it’s gone too far and it’s really sad but most of the time we stop it.”
Buckman says a lot has changed during his time as a firefighter like equipment and training.
Party organizers say he is one of the longest working firefighters in the nation.
