A retired Santa Maria Fire Department ladder truck was donated to Allan Hancock College’s fire training facility in Lompoc on Thursday.
The truck donation will be used to give future firefighters hands-on experience for training.
“We really couldn’t survive or produce the kind of recruits that we can produce in the training we can do without the generosity of our partner agencies,” Allan Hancock College Associate Dean of Public Safety Mitch McCain said.
Allan Hancock’s fire academy has been holding classes since the program started in 1972. The training serves three college districts and two counties on the central coast.
The training will prepare firefighters to graduate from the program in order to work for a department.
