Mid-State Fair opens with free carnival rides, Miranda Lambert takes main stage

The California Mid-State Fair opens today with official opening ceremonies at 11:30 a.m. just outside the Main Gate on Riverside Avenue in Paso Robles.

For the first time, all carnival rides will be free opening day starting at noon with paid admission into the Fair.

The livestock barns are busy with various shows throughout the day along with demonstrations at Camp Rattlesnake, pig races, butter making and much more. Here is a link toWednesday’s schedule.

The band Smash Mouth will take to the Frontier Stage at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night. Headliner Miranda Lambert with Randy Houser is in the Grandstand arena at 7:30 p.m.

Other big artists this year include Smokey Robinson, Blake Shelton and Cardi B.

The weather is cooperating so far with below normal temps expected the next couple of days.

Even when the temps heat up, there’s a new place to cool down at the “Ice Bar.”

The Mid-State fair is open every day from Noon to Midnight. Tickets are available online and at the gate.

It runs for 12 days, closing on July 28.
