It was another hot day on the Central Coast Monday with highs at the coastal valleys in the 90s and inland areas again topping 100.

Yes, it was HOT around the Central Coast today.. even coastal valleys jumped into the 90s this morning before a breeze came to help. A cooldown begins this week!

All that changes Tuesday as the ridge responsible begins to weaken.

Look how quickly we'll feel differently here on the Central Coast. Interior valleys should fail to hit 100 Tuesday and coastal valleys likely stay under 80!

The more immediate concern will be gusty northwest winds that will affect southern Santa Barbara County later today and tonight.

Pressure gradients are primed to jump later this afternoon and increasing northerly flow aloft and subsidence will help drive those winds down to the coast, mainly from San Marcos Pass and Goleta west to Pt Conception. Temperatures in the western portion of the Santa Ynez Range are currently in the 90s and humidities in the teens and that hot, dry air along with gusty northerly winds 40-50 mph will surface at lower elevations as the event unfolds this evening.

Sundowners will be a concern later this evening and tonight in the SB county high country and passes and canyons. With that… fire risk is also a concern.

Overnight low clouds and dense fog will fill in along the Central Coast. Marine layer depth expected to remain fairly low.

Over the next few days we’ll get more onshore flow. Some marine influence Tuesday but more each day Wednesday and Thursday cooling this dramatically. Inland temps will even drop into the 80s later this week, good timing for the Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles.

We will stay mild into the weekend but Sunday into next week temps look to start a rebound.
