A truck carrying equipment to the Cal Poly campus for graduation hit a railroad overpass Wednesday evening.
The university says the truck was from Fresno and was carrying equipment for this weekend’s commencement ceremonies when it hit the overpass on Highland Drive.
According to the university, the driver misjudged the height of the bridge and collided with it.
No injuries were reported.
University Police worked with Union Pacific Railroad and San Luis Obispo City Fire to clear the scene.
Fire officials say a metal cutting saw and prying tools were used to remove part of the truck’s roof, allowing the driver to back out from underneath the bridge.
SLO City Fire adds that “great care” was taken to not damage a pipe attached to the bridge. The pipe reportedly has a fiber optic cable inside.
The area was clear by 9:40 p.m.
