Sheriff’s office searches for suspect wanted on felony warrant in Templeton

UPDATE (8:42 p.m.) – The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office says deputies are searching for Daniel Jay Romo, 25, of Paso Robles.

The sheriff’s office says he is wanted on a felony warrant.

The search reportedly began after officers spotted the man near Bennett Way in Templeton.

Deputies say Romo ran across Highway 101 into an area near Templeton Middle School.

They say he was spotted holding a knife to his throat and was considered suicidal.

Several law enforcement agencies responded to search for him, however, they weren’t able to locate him.

He was last seen wearing a multi-colored dress shirt, dark jeans, and sunglasses.

He is described as 5’7″ tall and weighs 140 pounds.

He has visible tattoos on his face and neck.

The sheriff’s office says he is not considered a danger to the public.

ORIGINAL STORY (7:46 p.m.) – San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies searched the Templeton area for a probationer Tuesday night.

Public Information Officer Tony Cipolla tells KSBY the sheriff’s office was assisting the Probation Department in its search for someone who was wanted on a felony warrant.

The sheriff’s office says after a thorough search, however, the person was not located.

The search began around 5:40 p.m. near Templeton Middle School.

A KSBY crew at the scene says CHP officers, sheriff’s deputies, and probation officers all responded to the scene Tuesday evening.

They were also seen searching the area near Vineyard Drive and Main Street, just across from Templeton High School.

A helicopter also assisted in the search.

As a precaution, a reverse 911 call was issued to people in the area, telling them to stay inside while the search was conducted.
