Santa Maria High School students showcased their writing for students at Adam Elementary School on Friday.

Many of the high school students have transitioned to fluency and published their own books.

The students say writing gave them a space to express themselves.

High school junior, Karen Torres, wrote a book about friendship, being accepted in society and the spirit of equality.

She said it felt good to see the elementary school students smiling and laughing at her book.

The teacher who helped the high school students create their own books hopes they learn about the impact of being a role model in the community.

All of the books written by the student authors will be donated.
