Cal Poly could one day get a new transit center on campus.

The Civil Engineering Department showcased plans for a multimodal transit center at the Senior Design Showcase Thursday night.

Some students were assigned to create a plan for the new transit hub at Cal Poly.

About six groups worked on the plan for six months.

The client for the project is Cal Poly Facilities, which just published its 2035 Master Plan.

It includes plans for a parking structure off Highland Drive, as well as transportation improvements and a student project center.

This project would add one travel lane, three parking stalls for bus use, and bike storage as part of a transit hub.

The project is still in the planning phase, but students say the experience is preparing them for the real world.

“This is phenomenal to talk about it in interviews and sort of get a better understanding of what a career would be like,” said Veronika Krahg, a senior Civil Engineering student.
