A driver was hospitalized with major injuries Wednesday following a rollover crash on Highway 246, west of Buellton.

The crash was reported around 2:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 7600 block of Highway 246.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department says the first engine to arrive at the scene found a Jeep Cherokee that had rolled over and was on its roof.

Paramedics were able to access the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle.

The driver, who was only identified as a man in his 70s, suffered major injuries in the crash.

A second engine responded to the call and set up a landing zone for a Calstar helicopter at nearby Williams Ranch.

The driver was extricated from the vehicle and then driven to the landing zone in an ambulance. He was eventually transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital’s trauma center via Calstar helicopter.

Two Santa Barbara County Fire Department engine companies, as well as AMR and Calstar7, assisted with the response.

The CHP’s Buellton office is now handling the investigation.
