A group of veterans arrived home Wednesday night after a two-day trip to Washington, D.C.

Twenty World War II and Korean Veterans made the trip, which was made possible by Honor Flight Central Coast.

The organization seeks to honor America’s veterans by taking them to D.C. where they can view the national memorials dedicated to the wars they served in.

Friends and family members gathered inside San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport Wednesday night to give the veterans a hero’s welcome.

The veterans left Monday for their “Tour of Honor.” Along the way, people greeted them at airports and memorials and thanked them for their service.

Honor Flight Central Coast usually takes three trips a year. The next trip is scheduled for June 17, 2019. It is free to all veterans.

According to the organization’s website, more than 135 local veterans are still waiting to go on their Tour of Honor. Organizers say time is not on their side for World War II or Korean War veterans.
