More than four dozen San Luis Obispo students were honored Tuesday during the Mayor’s Award for Community Service ceremony.
Seventh and eighth graders were recognized during a ceremony with San Luis Obispo Police Chief Deana Cantrell at the Ludwick Center. Afterward, they walked to the city council meeting, where they were recognized again.
All of the students completed at least 30 hours of volunteer work.
“I did it because I want to give back to the community and give my energy towards everyone to see how I make them feel, and when I volunteer, it makes me feel very happy, and it makes me feel excited, and I want to do it more and more,” said Eva Voss, an 8th grade student at Laguna Middle School who logged 138 community service hours.
