The number of travelers passing through the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport in 2019 is taking off.

New numbers released Monday are making history for the small airport. San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport is celebrating its busiest first quarter ever in the airport’s history.

Airport officials say 113,320 people flew in and out of the airport during January, February and March. That’s a 15 percent increase from 2018 when about 98,000 travelers passed through the airport.

The North American chapter of Airports Council International named SLO County Regional as one of the fastest growing airports on the continent.

Airport representatives say they hope and expect passenger numbers to continue to grow in the second quarter of 2019 with the new addition of daily nonstop service to Dallas/Ft. Worth.
