Plans for a giant casino — as big as three football fields — and the largest hotel in Kern County, just south of Bakersfield, are a step closer to completion, KGET reports.

The Tejon Indian Tribe Trust Acquisition and Casino Project Scoping Report details the massive hotel-casino project planned for Kern County.

The empty land is 14 miles south of Bakersfield that could become an entertainment hub for Kern County.

Last July, Las Vegas-based SCCR Tejon LLC purchased 306 acres of land for more than $10 million.

A report released in February by the U.S. Department of Interior and the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs shows specifics of the property:

  • 166,000 square foot casino
  • 220,000 square foot hotel with up to 400 rooms
  • Restaurants, retail, concert venues
  • Parking lot with 4,500 spaces

County sources say if the project is approved it would be a $600 million investment meaning jobs and other revenue sources would stay in Kern County.

An environmental impact statement for the project is expected to be released later this year.
