The Atascadero High School robotics team is celebrating another big win, after being named world champions in Texas over the weekend.
The Greybots traveled to Houston, TX last week to compete in the FIRST Robotics Championship.
Their team was one of about 400 in the 2019 international competition. Greybots student president Drew Daner says they competed against teams from Turkey, Mexico, Australia, Brazil, China and other American teams.
Going into the final competition, the Greybots needed to win two out of three matches to win the first place prize.
“Before our final matches, we were seen as the underdog team since we were competing against the undefeated four-time world championship team from San Jose,” said Daner.
The Greybots were victorious, making them now three-time world champions. They are in an elite club of just four teams to have ever won that many world championship titles.

The team also ranked first in their division, along with partner teams from California.
Daner says the Greybots team has doubled in size since 2017 and continues to grow. Atascadero High School recently created an “engineering for robotics” class to accommodate more students interested in the robotics program.
