Emergency officials respond to crash involving off-highway vehicle at Oceano Dunes

(Saturday 8:30 a.m.) – KSBY News has reached out to multiple agencies in an effort to obtain additional information. As soon as new information is acquired, this story will be updated.

UPDATE (10:04 p.m.) – Witnesses at the scene tell a KSBY crew they saw two four-wheel drive ambulances go out into the dunes toward Independence Hill.

 

UPDATE (9:53 p.m.) – CAL FIRE says it responded and assisted to an accident involving an off-highway type vehicle at the Oceano Dunes Friday.

Firefighters weren’t able to confirm what type of vehicle was involved.

The original reports were that there were multiple injuries, however, CAL FIRE wasn’t able to say how many people were injured or what the extent of the injuries was.

The initial call about the accident was around 7:40 p.m.

Firefighters are still assisting at the scene.

A KSBY crew at the scene says the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area was packed Friday night, likely with people visiting for the Easter holiday weekend.

 

ORIGINAL STORY (9:02 p.m.) – Emergency officials are responding to an incident at the Oceano Dunes.

The initial calls came in just before 8 p.m. Friday.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s office tells KSBY its medics were called to the scene and are responding, however, the sheriff’s office wasn’t able to release any information on what happened.

State Parks is reportedly in charge of the response.

A KSBY crew headed to the scene says emergency lights are visible from a distance.
