Monday marks the start of National Library week and the Santa Maria Library is celebrating by unveiling its newest collection.

However, this new collection is not of books but rather of items you can check out and take home to try out. Librarians are calling the collection the “Library of Things.”

Visitors can check out items such as musical instruments, virtual reality units, sewing machines and digital cameras.

If you want to play with an item a while longer, you just need a library card to check it out and take it home for up to three weeks.

The Santa Maria Library is open Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
