Seattle police: 2 dead, 2 critically injured following shooting

UPDATE (6:30 p.m.) – Two men were killed and two people are critically injured following a shooting in Northern Seattle, according to the Seattle Police Department.

Police said the shooting happened just after 4 p.m. Wednesday when the gunman approached a driver near Sand Point Way and Bartlett Ave. They said the gunman critically injured the woman before walking into the street and firing at a Metro bus.

Seattle Police said the bus driver was shot but he was able to turn the bus around and head away from the gunman.

After shooting the bus driver, police said the gunman approached a second driver in a red Toyota Prius, shot and killed him.

Police said when they contacted the gunman he climbed into the red Toyota Prius, drove away at a high rate of speed and crashed into another car, killing the driver.

The gunman was taken into custody after a brief standoff with police.

Currently, the shooter is at Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries according to police.

UPDATE (6:05 p.m.) – A Metro bus driver is reportedly among the shooting victims.

Police say it’s still unclear what led up to the shooting.


 

(5:17 p.m.) – Seattle police say multiple people have been shot in the northern part of the city.

The shooting happened in the area of Lake City Way and Sandpoint Way. Officers are asking people to avoid the area.

Police say at least one person has been detained. It’s unclear if there are additional suspects.
