UPDATE (2:30 p.m.)- Caltrans District 5 says both southbound lanes on Highway 101 at San Ysidro Road are open, hours after a deadly crash.
The collision was reported at about 2:15 a.m. Saturday.
CHP officers say it appears a pedestrian was laying in the number two lane of the road and was hit by a car.

ORIGINAL STORY (9:38 a.m.)– The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly collision on Highway 101 southbound in the Montecito area.
The crash was reported around 2:15 a.m. Saturday in the area just south of Olive Mill Road.
CHP officers say it appears a pedestrian was laying in the number two lane and was struck by a vehicle.
Officers say the driver pulled over to check on the person, but then fled the scene.
The driver was eventually stopped by Ventura CHP officers.
Caltrans tweeted around 8:40 a.m. Saturday saying the right slow lane of southbound Highway 101 was closed at San Ysidro Road because of the accident. Drivers are asked to expect some delays.
