A “super bloom” of California poppies near Lake Elsinore in Riverside County is so large it can be seen from space.
Satellite imagery taken this week shows the hillsides along Walker Canyon covered with blooming orange poppies.
If you look closely, you may also see hundreds of parked cars and people hiking along the trails in the area.
The crush of sightseers has overwhelmed the City of Lake Elsinore. For the upcoming weekend, the city is requiring visitors to park in designated parking areas and buy tickets to board a shuttle to Walker Canyon.
The city, about a 90-minute drive from Los Angeles, was swamped last weekend with about 150,000 people craving to see the super bloom spawned by heavy winter rains.
