UPDATE (11:25 a.m.)- The San Luis Obispo County Department of Public Works says about 100,000 gallons of water were lost after a water pipeline burst in Atascadero.
The water pipeline broke at about 8 a.m. Saturday on Rocky Canyon Road near Halcon Road east of Atascadero.
The Department of Public Works says their quick response resulted in less water being wasted.
Road crews cleared up Rocky Canyon Rd. and the road is now open.

Firefighters responded to a water pipeline break Saturday morning.
CAL FIRE first tweeted about the incident just after 8 a.m.
It happened on Rocky Canyon Road near Halcon Road east of Atascadero. A photo from the scene showed water shooting into the air and gushing over the roadway.

Firefighters say someone who lived in the area started building berms to divert the flow of water.
Firefighters tweeted around 8:45 a.m. saying the pipeline had been shut down and water was no longer flowing in the area. Crews were expected to stay on scene for another hour.
CAL FIRE, Atascadero Fire, and State Hospital Fire assisted.
