(UPDATE 10:30 a.m.) – The  Paso Robles Unified School District says the teen killed was a student within the district.

The district says counselors and support staff are available for students and staff at Paso Robles and Liberty high schools and that counselors and psychologists district-wide have been informed should counseling needs arise at other schools.

(UPDATE 4:00 a.m.) – A 17-year-old girl from Paso Robles was hit and killed Tuesday night in Templeton, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP report says the teen girl was walking on the righthand shoulder of northbound Highway 101, just north of the Las Tablas Rd. off-ramp.

CHP officers are investigating why the girl stepped into the right lane of the highway, directly in the path of cars.

The unidentified girl was hit and killed by an oncoming car. The driver of that vehicle was not arrested and CHP does not suspect the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

CHP is working to identify the girl and notify family before releasing her name.

The CHP is investigating a deadly accident on northbound Highway 101 in Templeton.

CHP says it appears a pedestrian was hit near the Las Tablas Road off-ramp.

The first call came in around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday.

As of 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, one lane was closed on northbound 101. The Las Tablas on-ramp was also closed, but CHP expected the ramp to reopen shortly.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office was also on scene at one point during the investigation.

The CHP did not release any information about the circumstances of the accident or the person who was killed.
