Fans of the movie ‘Space Jam’ have been waiting a long time–decades, in fact–and relief is in sight as we now know when the new movie is landing in theaters.

Spring Hill Entertainment made the announcement Thursday night on twitter saying ‘Space Jam 2’ will be released on July 16, 2021, so we’ve got just over two years to wait.

Filmmakers say the movie will star basketball legend, Lebron James, taking over from Michael Jordan, who starred in the original movie in 1996.

As of right now, filmmakers are saying it does not look like Jordan will be involved in the film. Their main focus for the movie is to act as a reboot of the franchise, rather than a sequel.

It was announced in late September that “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler will produce and “An Oversimplification of Her Beauty” director Terence Nance will direct Space Jam 2.

Filmmakers say we can expect to see the usual Looney tune characters, but there are no updates on what other NBA players will be in the film.
