People are dancing through the night at Cal Poly to raise money for patients at Cottage Children’s Medical Center in Santa Barbara.

The third annual Cal Poly Dance Marathon kicked off Friday night. People will be dancing from 7 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday on campus.

The goal is to raise funds and awareness for the medical center.

“We’re honored to be amongst these students who are spending the day dancing for families like ours. They’re raising money, spending 12 hours overnight to raise money to help families like ours,” said Karen Gibson, who attended the event. “Our children, Kate and Jack, were born at 32 weeks. Jack was in the NICU for three months, and we benefited so much from the care that we received at Cottage Hospital. These beautiful children benefited so much from the care they received. Honestly, it saved their lives.”

Students are hoping to raise $80,000 for Cottage. The final total will be announced Saturday morning when the event ends.
