The Cal Poly Rodeo Team is raising money for Jack’s Helping Hand, a San Luis Obispo non-profit that works with kids with special needs and kids battling cancer.

To help raise money and make some local kids feel special, the team held a rodeo on Sunday. Children who benefit from Jack’s Helping Hand got to be a cowboy or cowgirl for the day, putting on cowboy boots and chasing a mechanical steer or riding a mechanical bull.

Kids also enjoyed meeting some real animals.

“We’ve got some calves for them to pet, horses to pet, it’s just as much as we can offer for these students to get a dose of a rodeo,” said Ben Londo, a Cal Poly rodeo coach.

Sunday’s event is one of several events the Cal Poly Rodeo Team hosts to benefit Jack’s Helping Hand. Last year, they raised a total of $8 thousand. This year, their goal is to raise $15 thousand.
