Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, but it looks more like Halloween in Atascadero.

The Haunt in Atascadero opened a Valentine’s Day Haunted House on Friday.

“We decided Halloween shouldn’t be limited to just October, so we fired up the Haunted House for February,” said Chris Towers, owner of The Haunt.

It’s a different take on the traditional red roses and chocolate, although you’ll still find candy.

“It’s basically a haunted candy factory. We took Willy Wonka, and we were inspired by him, so we twisted it and turned it and made it just a horrible, horrible fun experience for anyone that wants to come,” said Towers.

If you went to The Haunt for Halloween, you can rest assured you’ll find new scares and surprises this time around.

“The actors are different, special effects are different. We never like to do the same show twice. That’s boring and no one wants to see the same thing twice, so we try and keep it interesting so we keep the audience engaged,” said Towers. “It’s all about the unknown and the unexpected. Deep down, you know you’re safe. Nothing in here is going to actually hurt you or harm you, but we do such a good job of suspending that disbelief when you’re actually down in our basement, you have no idea what you’re in for.”

The Valentine’s Day Haunted House is open for the next three weeks.
