Warming Center opens in Grover Beach amid cold, wet weather

Posted

The 5Cities Homeless Coalition opened its winter Warming Center Tuesday.

The center will be open from 5 p.m. Tuesday through 7 a.m. Wednesday at Hillside Church, which is located at 1935 Newport Avenue in Grover Beach.

Overnight guests will have a safe and dry place to sleep as stormy weather hits the Central Coast. They’ll also be provided with a hot meal.

Guests are asked to arrive between 5 and 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The Warming Center might open on future dates as well, depending on weather conditions. Generally, the center is activated when there is a 50 percent chance of rain or when temperatures drop below 40 degrees.

The center is currently looking for donations, including new sweatshirts, sweatpants, socks, and underwear. There is also a need for food items, including coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cereal, granola bars, peanut butter, jelly, and individually packaged juice, crackers, cookies, and chips. All items must be new.

Volunteers are also needed. If you’re interested in helping, click here.
